- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon chopped onion
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon onion salt
- 10 slices processed cheese (such as Velveeta), divided
- 4 hamburger buns, split
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat until the beef is no longer pink, then drain.
- Sprinkle the mixture with cornstarch, stirring until it’s well blended.
- Add diced tomatoes, oregano, salt, and onion salt, and cook uncovered for 5 minutes, allowing the mixture to slightly thicken.
- Add six slices of cheese and stir until the cheese melts and blends into the beef mixture.
- Place the split hamburger buns cut side up on an ungreased baking sheet, then spoon approximately 1/4 cup of the meat mixture onto each bun half.
- Cut the remaining cheese slices in half diagonally and place a piece over each meat-covered bun half.
